Scripture and Tradition:
Now when the apostles in Jerusalem heard that Samaria had accepted the word of God, they sent them Peter and John, who went down and prayed for them, that they might receive the holy Spirit, for it had not yet fallen upon any of them; they had only been baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus. Then they laid hands on them and they received the Holy Spirit.
Baptism, the Eucharist, and the Sacrament of Confirmation together constitute the “Sacraments of Christian Initiation,” whose unity must be safeguarded. It must be explained to the faithful that the reception of the Sacrament of Confirmation is necessary for the completion of baptismal grace. For “by the Sacrament of Confirmation, [the baptized] are more perfectly bound to the Church and are enriched with a special strength of the Holy Spirit. Hence they are, as true witnesses of Christ, more strictly obliged to spread and defend the faith by word and deed.
Confirmation is traditionally made during the 11th grade school year, Seniors in high school who have not made their Confirmation are encouraged to attend to receive the Sacrament with their peers. If you have already completed high school, please reference the RCIA (Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults) formation ministry or contact Paul Hood, Director of Evangelization Email Paul or by phone 337-837-1864 ext. 299.
All confirmation candidates will be encouraged to attend our High School program called Life Teen which takes place after most 5:00pm Sunday Masses. This Life Night offers a meal and addresses relevant topics that our teens are wrestling with in a Catholic context. Life Nights are opportunities for your teen to grow in holiness and paves the way for them to have a lifelong relationship with Christ. What will be required by all Confirmation candidates is to attend our Confirmation day retreat held on January 27 at our parish.
