Summer Camp Covecrest

To the community of Sacred Heart of Jesus, I say, thank you! In youth ministry, we dream big with hopeful anticipation for the summer.  With school, sports and extracurricular activities, summer is a significant time of year for us to provide opportunities for teens to encounter community and the person of Jesus Christ.

Earlier this year I asked you to support our teens financially on their trip to Summer Camp Covecrest.  You responded loud and clear with your support of over $13,000. This level of generosity allowed our students to attend camp for 50% less than its original cost. Your generosity goes beyond financial support; your prayers were also heard loud and clear.

Our students had a life-changing experience at summer camp.  Summer camp and our Life Teen ministry go beyond just a singular event.  The transformation that takes place when we are called on retreat (or summer camp) lays a firm foundation for a student’s life with Christ.  This radical encounter with Jesus eliminates the question of “Is Jesus really there?” They see Him in such powerful ways.

Please take time to read through the testimonies of teens experience at camp. If you would like to see photos, quotes and our camp video, please checkout www.shbroussard.org/covecrest.

“My experience at Covecrest truly turned my life around. Not only did I find God, but I was taught how to continue growing in my relationship with God at home.  Covecrest showed me how much that God loves me, and the joy this brought me made me want to share this joy in my community.” Selena Burgett, 11th Grade, Teurlings

“Camp has been impactful to me because of one of our summer missionaries Jude.  I came to camp wanting to improve my prayer life, and Jude taught us how to pray in a way that really helped me.  It involved praying besides written songs.  From now on, my prayer life will be much better.” Jean Ross Normand 11, Lafayette High

“I had the most exhilarating experience. God moved in my heart more than He had in a while. I got to grow closer with friends I was already close with and made friendships with new people. The greatest part was watching everyone grow in their faith. I wouldn’t trade the week at camp for anything on earth.” Anna Grace Hood, 9th Grade, Southside
