Youth Encountering Christ

Dear young people, let yourselves be taken over by the light of Christ, and spread that light wherever you are.” St. Pope John Paul II

If we look at one of the greatest saints in the 21st century, we see a cry for young people to encounter Christ.  What St. Pope John Paul II is asking is for young people to walk with and in Christ daily. To encounter Him in the real presence to allow their hearts to be converted and for a desire to learn about their faith and share this entire journey with all those they encounter.

Here at Sacred Heart, we are striving daily to provide opportunities for young people to encounter Jesus Christ authentically.  These opportunities might be a middle school or high school night where we have adoration, a bible study where we unpack the Gospel or even something as simple as a conversation on the sidelines of a football game. As missionaries in service to the young people, we reflect on the what God said to the young prophet Jeremiah, “But the Lord answered (Jeremiah)… To whomever I send you, you shall go; whatever I command you, you shall speak.  Have no fear before them, because I am with you to deliver you, says the Lord.” (Jeremiah. 1:7-8)

These opportunities of encountering youth where they are in fact, an opportunity for the youth to encounter Christ.  As missionaries, we often find that Christ is overwhelming our own hearts, preparing us to go out and “make disciples” (Matthew 28:19)  To make this mission happen, I ask that you consider becoming a missionary at Sacred Heart of Jesus to serve the young people.
