Gift Assessment Retreat

Here at Sacred Heart, we hold tight to this two-fold vision: Encountering Jesus and Becoming Missionary Disciples. Many of you have adopted this vision and made it your own. We believe that as we journey together in faith that a serious amount of time and energy should be focused on exactly how we accomplish this mission. Specifically, how do we as a parish better equip people to serve the mission?

In 1 Cor 12, St. Paul speaks eloquently of the various parts of the body and how each one of them exists to serve the larger Body of Christ. We believe that God has endowed each of us with amazing gifts from the Holy Spirit. The Church calls these gifts charisms.

So how does someone go about discerning what his or her individual charisms are? What if there was a way to help people develop those gifts and charisms?

The first step is to identify what gifts and charisms God has given you. On June 1 at 9am, Sacred Heart will host its first Gifts Assessment Retreat. This retreat will help each person identify their five most abundant charisms and how they can be used to serve the Church. The day will consist of teaching, discussion, and discernment of one’s specific gifts and charisms. The day is free; and breakfast, lunch and snacks will be provided throughout the day.

Who should attend this retreat:

1. People who have had an encounter with Jesus and want to serve the parish.

2. Anyone who has attended Alpha and wants to learn how to serve the Church in a more intentional way.

3. Anyone belonging to a Grow Group, Come Lord Jesus, or long-term small group that wishes to explore how his or her individual charisms can serve the Church.

Formation Night, Topic: Where's That in the Bible?

Catholics often get a bad rap for their relationship with the Bible. Some accuse us of never reading it, others accuse us of adding things to it, and still others accuse us of caring more about our man-made traditions than the Word of God. How do we explain our beliefs that may be difficult to find in the Bible? Join us on May 14th to learn more about what Catholics truly believe about the Word of God and its intimate relationship with the Tradition of the Church.
