3rd-12th Grade Faith Formation Information and Registration
3rd-5th Grade Faith Formation
The Catechism of the Church teaches that “Parents have the first responsibility for the education of their children;” and “through the grace of the sacrament of marriage, parents receive the responsibility and privilege of evangelizing their children.” We are excited to offer a family catechesis program for our 3rd-5th grades called Family Faith Formation (FFF). It is our hope that this program empowers our parents to truly be the Domestic Church, the church at home.
What does it look like?
Once a month 3rd-5th grade students and parents will attend class on campus. They will receive a unit from their book to take home and complete with their family. They will return the completed unit test at the next month’s Family Faith Formation date. They will also have time in class to complete projects related to the unit/season. The last part of the class will be spent in small faith sharing groups called “Grow Groups.” This is an opportunity for them to discuss their faith with peers, giving them the experience to express their relationship with God later in life. There will also be a mentor assigned to your family to help in any way during the teaching process.
While the students are in their class, parents will have the great privilege of listening to and talking with a dynamic speaker. Topics will focus on issues that parents with children face, as well as how to grow in your own personal faith. It is our hope to spiritually feed both child and parent to grow as a more powerful and faithful family. While it is a significant change from the traditional model, it is one that has proven to work. Some parent quotes from last year: “We enjoyed the talks and guests. Lots of conversations were had following the topics leading us to discover each other and strengthen our relationships.” “I am very pleased with the faith formation program, and have seen a definite growth in my child’s faith!” “My husband and I really enjoyed the speakers. We liked the opportunity given to us to learn with our child and grow with her through spiritual journey this year.” What a wonderful way to intentionally bring God into family time.
